CW gives early pickups to three dramas

Early presents for fans, cast and crew of three CW dramas: The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and freshman drama Arrow will be back for new seasons.
The network made the announcement Monday, but it was no surprise: The three genre shows are the top-rated performers on the often-struggling network, formed from the 2006 shutdown of predecessors UPN and WB by owners CBS and Warner Bros.
Arrow, based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, marks the network's biggest series premiere since Diaries in 2009. But the network has stumbled with other shows that appeal to its former target audience of young women: Once-hot Gossip Girl fiizzled to its finish line last month, 90210 is running on fumes and soapy medical drama Emily Owens, M.D. aired its final episode last week.
