Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks is stepping out on her own.

The Grammy Award-winning singer will release her debut solo album, Mother, on May 7 from Columbia Records. Fans of the country singer can expect something different: this time around, Maines was influenced by a more rock-based, edgy sound (the title track is a Pink Floyd cover).

Maines teamed up with friend and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Ben Harper, who co-produced the record with Maines.
