Inaugural ball. President Obama's second inauguration drew an average of 20.6 million viewers across 18 networks during daytime hours Monday, a big drop from the 37.8 million who tuned in for his 2009 ceremony. NBC's Pro Bowl claimed a modest (by NFL standards) 12.2 million Sunday, down slightly from last year's, while the Screen Actors Guild Awards notched 5.2 million, a slight uptick, for Sunday's simulcast on TNT and TBS.
Serial beginnings. Fox's Kevin Bacon thriller The Following opened with a solid 10.4 million viewers Monday and was this season's No. 2 drama debut among young adults. ABC's Voice-like cooking competition The Taste tasted 5.8 million with Tuesday's debut, while Lifetime's Project Runway returned Thursday with 1.9 million. Starz's final Spartacus season, War of the Damned, started with 930,000 Friday.
Finale time. The series finale of ABC's Grey's Anatomy spinoff Private Practice claimed 5.3 million Tuesday against the fourth-season ender of NBC's Parenthood (4.9 million), while ABC's canceled Last Resort signed off with 5.5 million Thursday. And FX's American Horror Story: Asylum closed its doors with 2.3 million Wednesday.
