TV tonight: 'Year With Katie Couric,' 'Chicago Fire'
Posted December 18, 2012
A Home for the Holidays
CBS, 8 ET/PT
Rascal Flatts will host this 14th annual special, which is designed to support adoption. Melissa Etheridge, Matchbox Twenty and Phillip Phillips are among those expected to perform, along, of course, with the hosts. It's a worthy cause and a worthwhile holiday show -- though if you're from Pittsburgh, you'll also want to reserve a competing spot on your DVR for the season finale of A Football Life (8 ET/PT) on the NFL Network. The final film in question features three words that, for any Pittsburgh Steelers fan, are among the happiest in the English language: The Immaculate Reception.
The Year With Katie Couric
ABC, 9:30 ET/PT
Couric hosts this special, 90-minute edition of 20/20, which takes a retrospective look at the just-about-to-conclude year. You can probably anticipate many of the topics, both good and bad, which should help you determine whether you want to sit through those topics once again.
NBC, 10 ET/PT
Dick Wolf's firehouse series heads off to its Christmas break with an episode that finds a member of the squad accused of stealing a necklace during a call to an upscale townhouse. Fire is far from a critical favorite (at least not here), but it's hung in there in the ratings, which is a decent sign that there's a large audience out there that enjoys the way Wolf tells stories. So for all of them, a Merry Chicago Christmas.
